Best-selling and award-winning author, MaryLu Tyndall dreamt of pirates and sea-faring adventures during her childhood days on Florida's Coast. After obtaining a degree in Math and working as software engineer for 15 years, she decided to test the waters as a writer. With now more than fourteen books published, she makes no excuses for the spiritual themes embedded within her romantic adventures. Her hope is that readers will not only be entertained but will be brought closer to the Creator who loves them beyond measure. In a culture that accepts the occult, wizards, zombies, and vampires without batting an eye, MaryLu hopes to show the awesome present and powerful acts of God in a dying world. MaryLu makes her home with her husband, six children, and several stray cats on the California coast, where her imagination still surges with the sea.
Her latest book is the fantasy romance, Tears of the Sea.

Thanks for joining us at the book club, MaryLu! Can we begin by having you tell us how long you’ve been writing fantasy romance or is this your first book of that genre?
MaryLu: Thank you so much for having me! Tears of the Sea is my first fantasy romance. I have fifteen other books published, but they are all Historical Romances. Why did I foray into fantasy for this one book? Well, I couldn't figure out a way to write a mermaid story otherwise.
Tears of the Sea has so many wonderful characters. Can you tell us a little about Perdita?
MaryLu: Perdita's one goal in life is to be cherished and loved and valued for who she is, without condition, and forever. Like most women, she seeks that one true love who will never leave her, who will love her always, and who would even be willing to die for her if need be. It was this naive thinking that caused her to bargain with an evil warlock and resulted in her being cursed to the life of a mermaid for all eternity. Every ten years, she is allowed a month on land in which to prove that true love exists. She must find a man who loves her enough to die for her, and then her curse will be broken. But after three-hundred years of trying, she is without hope and spends her time trying to kill herself. Yet even that freedom eludes her.
How does Captain Savion Ryne come into Perdita’s life?
MaryLu: Perdita is about to make another attempt on her life when she sees Savion fall off of his ship in the middle of a huge storm at sea. Even though he is a stranger, she cannot bear to watch him die, so she rescues him and brings him to her cave, where she tends his wounds.
What would you say are some of Perdita’s strengths and what are her weaknesses?
MaryLu: Perdita is clever, courageous, and very kindhearted. She spends much of her time rescuing sailors at sea and giving to the poor when she's on land. But she's also very cynical about love and human nature, severely depressed, desperate, and willing to do almost anything to break the curse. She believes her only value is her beauty.
What would you say is one of the most pivotal points in the book without giving too much away?
MaryLu: This story is about what true love really is. Our culture fantasizes love and makes it all about feelings and sex. But true love is unconditional, pure, unselfish. It has nothing to do with beauty or physical pleasure or butterflies in the stomach. It has everything to do with putting the one-loved above all else, with commitment and self-denial. After three-hundred years, Perdita finally comes to understand that, and it changes everything for her and for Savion.
Did your childhood days living on Florida’s coast have any influence on your writing?
MaryLu: Absolutely! I practically grew up on the beach. I love the tropics and the sea and tall ships and pirates and mermaids and ... well, you get the point. There's something so magnificent, romantic, and powerful about the sea.
Here’s your chance. What would you like to say to your readers and fans?
MaryLu:First and foremost, thank you for reading my books! Without you, I wouldn't be able to write. Secondly, it is my prayer that you are not only entertained by my stories but that you are blessed by the truths found within. And thirdly, that whether you believe in God or not, you will get a sense, an inkling of how much He loves you.
What’s next for you?
MaryLu: I'm currently writing the fifth book in my Legacy of the King's Pirates series! The Reckoning will release in the summer of 2015. It's a time travel pirate romance. Yup. You heard that right. :-)
