Gripping Memoir, Hailed "An Instant Classic" by Critics, Shares Journey of Love & Life through the Inspirational Eyes of Man's Best Friend... Crafted from the heart and experiences of L.B. Johnson, 'The Book of Barkley: Love and Life Through the Eyes of a Labrador Retriever' takes readers from the author's depths of grief and personal despair to an empowering new life chock-full of love. But Johnson's radical life change didn't come from finding God or attending a cookie-cutter support group, but instead from a black Labrador called Barkley who taught her the real, innate meaning of love. In a wholly-unique and uplifting new memoir, Johnson tells the deeply-personal story of her life and experiences with a rambunctious Labrador Retriever named Barkley. It's not just a story of one woman and her dog; but a bold journey to discover what love really is, and why learning to live like a dog gives humanity a powerful new meaning.

Where is your book set and why did you choose that location?

The book starts in my childhood home and ends up in the Midwest, the last place I ever thought I’d end up leaving and where I’ve honestly, been the happiest.

I’d like to know more about The Book of Barkley – Love and Life Through the Eyes of a Labrador Retriever. Can you give us a little background into why you wrote the novel?

The Book of Barkley is a memoir – but it’s also one with a pet as a main theme, something anyone who has experienced the joy and heartbreak of loving an animal can relate to.

I’d like to know more about the main character. Can you tell us more about him/her?

I still sort of laugh when I see a review for the book and someone says “the author just talks about herself”, apparently not understanding what a Memoir is.  I tried to make the book, not a “look at me” book but simply to share how one small creature turned a life that had become one of solitude after heartbreak into one surrounded by family and friends. Barkley is indeed the main character of this story –  it’s his lessons that made the whole story possible.

Can you tell us a little about the supporting characters?

Although I don’t use their legal names, those family and friends that shared Barkley’s journey and mourned on his passing play a big role in the story.

What’s next on your agenda?

My second book, Saving Grace – A Story of Adoption was published in 2015.  My first fiction book “Small Town Roads” will be published in the first part of 2017.  I’ve a 95 year old Dad right now that needs a lot of my time.  Writing is important, but so is family.

What would you like to say to your readers/fans?

Thank you for reading and sharing the book. 100% of all sales are donated to animal rescue non profits and Search Dog Foundation.  With the support of my readers many thousands of dollars have provided fostering, medical care, and services to find these dogs and cats a loving hom
