A passionate and dynamic entrepreneur who launched her global empire in the United States in 1985, Rani’s vision was to create an avant-garde bridal and evening couture line with modern styling and classic details. Renowned for infusing her creations with touches of magnificently colored jewels, exquisite hand embroidery, delicate beading and sparkling crystals on the finest silks and laces, these inspired designs with innovative draping evoke the timeless elegance every woman desires. RANI ST. PUCCHI is an award-winning fashion designer, an author and relationship expert. She is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post.
Before you started writing your book, what kind of research did you do to prepare yourself?
As an award-winning fashion designer and founder of the world-renowned Bridal House, St. Pucchi, established since 1985, and having worked with more than 15,000 women personally, I have learnt much about women and the challenges they constantly face in accepting their body. The research is from my own experience as well as from having participated in hundreds of runway shows and styling models in so many photo-shoot campaigns.
Did you pursue publishers or did you opt to self-pub?
I was initially considering self-publishing but while doing research on how best to do so, I stumbled upon Kohler Books and after much negotiations, I signed a three book deal with them.
If published by a publisher, what was your deciding factor in going with them?
That they would allow me the final say on how my book will look, complete with all the contents and chapters I would submit, as well as allow me to choose the images that would go in the book. This was the deciding factor and had I not been allowed these I would have certainly self-published.
If published by a publisher, are you happy with the price they chose?
Did you purposefully choose a distinct month to release your book? Why?
I wanted my book to be released as soon as possible. And October 15th happened to be the earliest possibility for this to happen.
How did you choose your cover?
I sent my publisher a few ideas that I had and they created 3 covers for me to choose from.
Did you write your book, then revise or revise as you went?
I wrote my book and went thru a couple of revisions as I finished each chapter, mainly adding content that I thought would best support the points I was making.
Did you come up with special swag for your book and how are you using it to help get the word out about your book?
I have a book trailer that is being used to spread the message across all social media and via e-mails.
Did you consider making or hiring someone to make a book trailer for your book?
If so, what’s the link?
What’s your opinion on giving your book away to sell other copies of your book?
I believe that giving your books away to the media and bloggers is the best way of getting the word out.
What are three of the most important things you believe an author should do before their book is released?
I believe that as soon as you start writing the first word you must have a clear idea on how you will be promoting your book. Plan ahead for blog tours, prepare your e-mail list and keep adding to it so that when you have a firm release date you can let others know about it, and lastly I think a book trailer is a very effective tool, because visual imagery is very powerful so do consider having someone on standby to create this for you.
What are three of the most important things you believe an author should do after their book is released?
Give a shoutout about your book on social media. Post your book trailer on YouTube. Immerse yourself in promoting your book with other bloggers.
What kind of pre-promotion did you do before the book came out?
I set up my author website and all social media as well as a 3 month long book blog tour.
Do you have a long term plan with your book?
I will continue to promote the book across all media indefinitely. I plan to have my book in libraries as well as have it translated in other languages so that women across the world can benefit from my message.
What would you like to say to your readers and fans about your book?
The message I would like to get across is that every relationship starts with an individual’s relationship to self. That loving your body is the first step and the key to having an amazing life with your partner, as well as how you show up in the world. I hope that this book will help you recognize how amazing you really are and love your body just as it is.
